I made the mistake a few days ago of scratching an "itch" on my back...on an area that is still numb from the surgery. I could have sworn that there was a mosquito bite or something and I was thrilled because I could "feel" something there. I scratched it like crazy but I couldn't feel what I was doing. Now I have terrible scratches with scabs on my back and it's a mess. Wow, those phantom itches are terrible! Thank goodness I can't feel what I did, but it's scary that I did that to myself without feeling it.

I have to thank you for this little heads-up for the post-op future. It's so good to have the knowledge of all you guys with experience but it's not nice at all to hear about you going through it. I know it's numb but I hope you're comfortable and that it heals up quickly.

I did the same thing the other day. It's crazy how you can be itchy and numb in the exact same spot.
I've taken to slapping the skin to avoid scratches...but I look crazy slapping my back so I try to only do it when I'm alone lol. =)Rebecca
