  • Rollercoasters ok BEFORE surgery?? Hope they're ok...?

    Hi,

While we are on the wait list for surgery I want to take my 13 yr old daughter to Six Flags for some extreme fun. When her degrees where around 50 a few months ago, Dr. said the spine is strong and she could finish basketball and ride rollercoasters. Tuesday we saw Dr again and NOW its around 71. Still ok to ride extreme stuff? I forgot to ask again.

We have a surgery date of Nov 16th with private practice and am still waiting to see if Shriners can get us in sooner. Same surgeon either way. We are sticking with Dr. Gupta. We really trust and like him.

Upper curve was around 50 in April, 64 in mid June and August just measured 71.
Her pain has been increasing as the curve has... Use Icy Hot and Tylenol for pain...
Yikes! I hope they fix her fast.

This has been a most difficult journey for me. The "wait" is very hard....

    Thank you friends!

    Kim

You guys have fun on the rollercoasters.

You might try “Blue stuff” and “Tigerbalm”. Don’t give them your phone #, they keep calling back all the time. Buy online.

    Take it easy on yourself....

Thanks Ed. I bought the mattress topper from (I think it was) your recommendation.
It really helped her get comfortable.

        Hi Kim,

I just found your thread and was thrilled to see that your daughter will be "fixed" by Dr Gupta. He was my surgeon and he and his staff were absolutely wonderful. He has a very calm demeanor as well as a great sense of humor - that helped me a lot. But more importantly, he is highly skilled in this type of surgery so your daughter is in good hands. Since I am an adult I was not treated at Shriners, I was treated at UC Davis (across the street) but I have heard wonderful things about Shriners.

Your daughter will be just fine. I'm sure that you are anxious but she is in good hands.

        Take care.

              Kim-

Take your daughter and have a good time. You are buckled in pretty securely-most of those coasters ride smoother than a lot of trucks I've ridden in!! It will be great to enjoy the time together and not worry about the upcoming surgery for a bit... My hubby took me to Disneyland and California Adventure just before my surgery last January. And I'm alot older and alot less flexible! I am 49, and had double curves measuring in their 70's, DDD, stenosis, blah, blah, blah-and I had a great time. It was nice to just let loose for while and take my mind off what was coming!
