I am looking for exerience in pain management for 12 yr old scoliosis girl.
We just got diagnosis 3-4 months ago.
We (she) are having surgery this summer as her curve is rapidly progressing. (Shriners -Sac) will be on short wait list.
As I watch that rib hump on her back grow, her pain seems to be increasing.
Shes complaining a lot about pain. Now that summers started and pe and basketball have ended I noticed she's having more pain. Maybe more time to think about it or the activity was good. I ask her to point where and she puts her finger on where her spine looks to have greatest curve and where the hump starts.
Curve was 59- 3 months ago but I can visibly see it getting worse (scary).
Is Cold pack, heating pad, massage, menthol rub stuff, or any of that been effective for anyone?
I appreciate this blog so very much!!!

Through the years I did quite a few things. I would recommend soaking in hot water. Make sure she replaces the water that is lost from soaking by drinking plenty of water.

Pam used to recommend Tiger balm.

I have used Bluestuff years ago

Don’t give them your phone #, they keep calling you back and can be quite annoying. E-mails are easily deleted.

Sorry about your daughter

hot showers help me, as does a moist heating pad...the kind with the big sponge inside that you wet and it makes the heat moist & warm...(years ago i used to use a hydrocolator)...

hope she gets some relief before the surgery....

sorry to hear about your daughter. i'm sure she'll receive excellent care at Shriners.

this is what helps me and it may help your child: i have tight, "bossy" muscles on the convex side of my curve. for me it's the left side. i lay on a folded up blanket on my right side and adjust until i feel the muscle tightness stretching. i hold it for a while, sometimes i even sleep like this.

there are a lot of good stretches in the book Curves Twists and Bends which i found at our public library.

best wishes
