  • 8 weeks post op.

    Hi everyone

Yes, I AM 8 WEEKS post op and feeling ok. I am actually staring school next week, so we will see how I do. The driving kind of make me nervous... it is 30 minutes one way ad then 2 hours class.
I still have stomachaches and nausea every day, is that normal?
Also, I would like to know when do you actually stop feeling everything? I feel my spine and the hardware when I don't have the brace off. It feels so weird, especially when I wake up in the morning. When do you actually stop being aware of it?
    Thanks
    Pilar

    Hi Pilar,

I am 7 weeks post-op and have been experiencing nausea the last two weeks. I'm wondering if it's because I've been cutting back on meds (both oxycotin and cyclobenzapren). Are you still on medications? I am stretching my doses but then i feel my back more and it's a bit achey. I'm guessing that eventually we just get used to the sensation and we don't notice it anymore. I am not back to work yet. I think I felt more ready at 5 weeks than at 7. I'm worrying about not being ready to go back but feel like I should be ready. We just gotta hang in there and hopefully we can get some advice from the experienced folks on this site

    Take care!

I would say that its safe to say that nausea, dizziness and falling down are triggered by medications....after I quit, these problems pretty much ceased. The dizzy’s took longer, and I had to take daily naps for a long time, but I was 49. Weaning off, and finally quitting meds takes some effort, is unpleasant, and pain levels will rise for 2 days. After the 2 days, things improved quickly.

I cant really comment on going back to school or work so early since you guys are much younger that I. There would be no way I could have gone back to school at 8 weeks since I was boiling in the bath tub for 12 weeks....

It’s a slow process, this getting used to things. I also wondered myself just like you are doing now, about feeling so stiff, putting my shoes on, and so forth. It took me about 2 years...I know, that might seem like a long time, but it will fly by. Every day will get a little better....

Be sure that everyone knows what you guys just went through. Its hard to expect too much after you been run over by a train. A copy of your x-rays should suffice, carry a copy with you to show to people.

Hi there-sounds like your doing great!
Im 3 months post op, not as young as you though-im 45 and I remember having a couple of weeks of feeling sick, I put it down to the meds so I cut down and then felt better.

I still feel the hardware-especially in bed at night but you kind of get used to it.
Im finding im reaching and stretching for things more, I dont feel as stiff.
It really does get easier, just take each day at a time and before you know it life will be back to normal!

        Take care.

Are you sure it's the hardware you're feeling and not the muscles spasming or "growing back" - I'm really not sure if that's accurate terminology.

I felt a lot of sensations and still do, less and less now at 4 months post op. I thought it was the hardware at first but now realize it's muscle sensations.

I had that same thought. At first , it seemed like I felt that where the tops of the rods would be were sort of "pulling". Now I wonder if it is just muscular. Overall, most of my pain has been muscular, and I definitely have spasms in certain spots. It seems to be where I had issues even before surgery. My muscle relaxers help me a lot. I don't really notice when I'm due for pain meds, but I DO notice when my muscle relaxers are due! Think of what all those muscles have been through with the surgery. Moved, cut through, all kinds of fun stuff!! It's no wonder...

So pleased to hear you sounding much better Pilar. I didn't drive until 3 months but that was because I had 7 weeks of dizziness until then. I hope you are ok at school and that every day brings further improvements.
