Hi guys, yeap I am dealing with this rigth now! This is what I have been taking: Dulcolax, activia, MIralax, and MIlk of mAgnesia. I really feel like going to the bathroom, but when I go I can't deliver... If you know what I mean. I thought that stool softener would be the right thing, but it does not work...
So, do you guys think is time for an enema or suppository ? Arghh I did not want to get to that point. What did you guys do? Any suggestions.

I had to have a suppository in rehab, but if you're home without a nurse to, uh, "administer it," it's probably time to break out the magnesium citrate.

I had the same problem, I was a mess with constipation. I found that walking was about the only thing that seemed to get things going.....the more I walked, the easier time I had with it. Other than that, did you try Citrucell? I took that along with the stool softeners, milk of magnesia, walking, etc.. and it seemed to help some, but really until I was off the narcotic pain meds I was plugged up too. :-(

You seem to be trying everything except prune and pear juice. This didn't work for me, but I have a friend who's had several surgeries and it always works for her so might be worth a try. Pour yourself half a glass of pear juice and half a glass of prune juice (chilled is more bearable) and sip alternately. Keep this up all day, you should be right by tomorrow.

I went 9 days and it wasn't funny. For me Nulax, which is a dried concoction of figs and other fruits, did the trick, probably because I darn near overdosed on the stuff.

So I administered the mineral oil enema today. It didn't do anything!!!! It feels like I have an obstruction there!!! Is driving me crazy! And my butt hurts.
I don't know what else to do... I guess I have to try the hard core laxatives now...
I tried to call the dr. But it seems that I won't be a bke to talk to anyone until Monday. I'm afraid iam going ti explore inside first!

            Mag Citrate

            Hi Pilar,

I am sorry to hear of your discomfort--I vividly remember having this problem at exactly the stage you are and it is no fun at all. You need to break out the big guns now, magnesium citrate if you can stand it (it tastes very bad but works very well--try chilling it). Dulcolax suppositories may also help but may be impossible for you to administer right now unless you have a willing helper.

I had to stay on some sort of stimulant laxative until I was off the narcotics. Once the road was cleared I managed with stool softener, miralax and a senokot every day, plus prunes.

Also try to drink tons of fluid.

Hang in there...it really does get better.

I am afraid that I am going ti hurt myself with all these... I cannot believe that the enema did not work!!!
I want yo at least talk to a dr. Before I keep taking stuff, but of course my luck, they are all unreachable today and the next days...
I am tired of feeling like this!

                Pilar,

Do you have an urgent care center you could try going to? Not an emergency room, but one of those walk-in centers? We have a number up here in Oregon associated with various medical groups, and also a for-profit group called zoom-care.

Anyway, you might see if a place like that would be feasible.

That was warm prune juice followed by milk of magnesia. The poster swore by it.

                      Pilar

Magnesium citrate. Get someone to pick up 2 bottles for you at the pharmacy. It looks like a soda bottle.

Drink 1 bottle and wait. It should take about 3 hours.

If that doesn’t work, go to the emergency room.

                      Hang in there....

                        Thanks ED.
I tried everything prune juice, miralax, dulcolax, mom, and the mineral oil enema. I look and feel like a balloon! I hope I get some sleep tonite...
I will try the magnesium citrate tomorrow and if it doesn't work, I will go to the ER! This is way to painful and nothing seem to do the trick. I feel like I have stones in my intestines and they are too big to pass. I am also not passing any gas...
                        This is so miserable!!
                        Anyways, thanks for your responses.

I was given an enema - twice. Didn't work. If it's any consolation, we all had this problem, to varying degrees, but I promise you we all eventually got going again. How's your pain now Pilar? Are you able to walk much?
