hi Kara
many people do...i know you are young...it is very often older people who get it...herniating discs seems to be more common in older people...but it can happen at any age...
i have severe degenerative disc disease...it is one major reason for needing fusion surgery, besides my curves of T42, L61 scoli....
disc disease is capable of causing tremendous pain...i hope that is not why you are asking about it!!
my scoli was livable with, until i herniated discs at work..then it was downhill all the way for me...and the pain was unbelievable! in my case, the discs are still causing me a great deal of pain..

Kara,
I too suffer from DJD and mine is caused by my scoli but also osteoporosis (I have it younger than most) So not to sound like a mom ...get your calcium/vit D supplements, especially if you are small framed . I have pain but the fusion helped
