  • The variability of Cobb angle is reduced due to technology advancements

Much debate on Cobb angles and marginal error.
Marginal error between reading radiographs is with in 3 degrees per a well respect orthopedic Surgeon whose hospital has served over 25,000 patients with the orthopedic facility using the most advanced equipment. An EOS low dose radiation scanner is used there.

With digital and computers the error of margin is reduced since a decade ago.
As technology advances the marginal of error will go down.

Here is documentation from 2008 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2852087/

manual measurement is not as reliable as computer or digital programs.

Manual is 6 to 10 degrees human error

    Computer is within 3 degrees

I just came across this article.

Diagnostic imaging of spinal deformities: reducing patients radiation dose with a new slot-scanning X-ray imager

      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20228703

This is the EOS scanner. The image quality is better for sure. I would love to see what is possible with the 3-d views.

Thanks for sharing, I am glad we are advancing in technology....and hopefully we will learn the cause or cure to scoliosis
