hi everyone,
I am still here dealing with my pain... I think I am getting used to it by now...
I feel it the most when I take my brace off to go to bed; that is, when I have trouble breathing, getting comfortable, and all the imaginable pains appear at once. I am just taking it one day at time.
I went to see Dr. Pashman today, and he was very please with the results and the way my incision is looking. I have to go back this Thursday to get the staples out and everything clean by the nurses.
I gotta say that it was nice to be outside and take the car ride to the dr.'s office. Yes, even with the pain!
They took xrays and I am very happy with the results as well. So now, besides the pain, I hope everything goes smoothly for me.
Take a look at it and tell me what you think!
To remind you:
I am 32 years old. Diagnosed at 13 wore Milwaukee brace fro 2 years.
I ignored it for too long and my curves got extremely large

Looks great Pilar. I've got a feeling my son's curve could well be at 100* but we'll see. Glad you're getting the pain under control a bit and don't hesitate to ask your doctor for anti-anxiety medication if you feel it could benefit you short term.

Pilar,
Amazing correction. I can certainly understand why you are in pain. All of your internal organs and all of your bones and muscles have big adjustments to make. How much taller are you now? Once you get past this pain, you will be so happy with the new you. Hang in there. It really will be worth it in the end. Rest easy.

Stellar correction! Damn. Art work. These guys are amazing.

I hope you get through this pain quickly so you can start enjoying that correction.

You must look completely normal again. Now you need to feel normal again and they have to help you with pain control.

Good luck.

No wonder you're in pain, there's been a MAJOR upheavel.

I agree with those posts above, I hope you come through this painful stage quickly and can soon start to enjoy your new body. Good pain relief will help get you through. What did Dr. Pashman say/do about your pain?

Dr. pashman prescribed Oxycontin 10mg 1 pill twice a day, 1 percocet every 4 hours, and he also gave me ambien to go to sleep. Since I am kind of small, he did not want to increase any dosage or give me something different. I think its right. I don't want to get hooked with painkillers. And yes, it was a brutal surgery, so i understand that pain is totally inevitble...

Pilar,

I'm glad your doing better. I was on the pain meds for about 3 1/2 months. Then I started weening off. I still take some on some bad days and I'm one year out. Your x-rays look great. Hang in there, it gets easier everyday.

Holy cow!! That is an amazing correction. I'm very small also and was on the same pain meds as you. The anterior incision with rib removal really hurts for a few months -- hang in there and know that in time it WILL feel better.

First of all, what an amazing correction!!! Congraulations! You are going to be so very happy once you get past these first few weeks. No regrets! This was the right thing to have done, especially while you are young!

My first week after my surgery I was taking two 10mg oxycontin twice a day and 2 percocet every 4 hours (this at 123 lbs). You may be smaller than this though, so you should definitely go with the lowest doseage that works for you. I just point this out, so don't feel you are at the upper limit of pain meds if you are still having pain.

I hope things keep getting better and better for you.

Hugs,

Pilar, Wow! That must be close to a record. I wish I would have gotten some of the three inches back that I lost. Good for you. Chalk one up for youth.

After my first scoliosis surgery, I was in a major amount of pain also. I am on the small side also, at that time probably 115# and was taking Oxycontin 20mg twice daily and Percocet every 4-6 hours for breakthrough pain. I absolutely needed it! I slooooowly weaned over the next few months but was on some type of narcotic pain med for at least 9 months. My point is, if you need to take something to ease your pain don't worry about becoming "hooked". For some there is a period of withdrawal but that is different than "addiction". Use your own judgement, of course but I hate to see people on here worry about that.
