  • Made it to the other side!

    Just wanted to let you know that 3 weeks later I am on my way to reocvery! The dr says aside from trying to do too much my healing is going great! My curve is almost straight! Sterry strips came off yesterday and the scarig looks great! Still don't have a lot of energy but it will come in time. Thank you all for your wonderful thoughts and prayers!

    Congrats Sandie with feeling pretty good only 3 weeks out! Your energy will return a little each day. How's your appetite? Take care and stay positive!

      It's great to hear your news Sandie! Another one safely over to *this* side.

      Take it easy, listen to your doctor, rest, sleep, walk and eat, is the best thing for you at this stage.

            Way to go, Sandie!
            Take it easy on yourself, take LOTS OF NAPS! I know how hard it is to NOT do stuff -- frustrating, too. I hate not being able to drive!
            Asking people to do things for you takes some getting used to, but I found out that people area ready and willing to jump in and help, from family to neighbors to my son's friends' parents. It's been amazing!
            I can even get my son to pick up his own socks, and mine too! It's a miracle.

            Hope all goes well for you from here on in; have a great Thanksgiving!

            Posterior fusion of T11-S1, part minimally invasive; TLIF at L4-5.

              61 years old--57 for surgery

              Diagnosed in 1965 at age of 13--no brace
              Thoracic Curve: 96 degrees to 35 degrees
              Lumbar Curve: 63 degrees to 5 degrees
              Surgery with Dr. Lenke in St. Louis--March 30, 2009
              T-2 to Pelvis, and hopefully all posterior procedure.

              All was posterior along with 2 cages and 6 osteotomies.

                    Congratulations, Sandie. You're doing terrific. My surgery was originally scheduled for Nov. 3. I wish I was where you are now with the surgery behind you and on the way to getting better every day. Keep us posted on your progress.

                      Congrat! Hope you have a smooth recovery. By the way, just wondering did you donate blood and did you need the transfusion? If so, how many units?
