I am 6 1/2 months and still cannot extend my arms over my head without difficulty. It feels like there is something preventing it from being fully extended.
Does anyone else have this situation?

No, I have been able to raise my arms over my head since Day 3 post-op. But I am not fused as high as you are.

Hi Melissa-

This happened to me. I couldn't raise my left arm over my head until about 4 months post op. I had my surgery in June and I couldn't lift my left arm comfortably until end of Sept/beg of Oct. I started aquatic physical therapy in the pool and it totally helped. Basically, I had (right after surgery) and am currently having problems with my neck. Then 3 months after surgery I developed a sharp pain in the back of my shoulder blade which all my doctors say is coming from bad discs in my neck. You also have neck problems too, right? I would totally recommend physcial therapy in the pool. They built up the back of my arm/shoulder blade/upper back area and within 3-4 weeks I was able to lift my arm over my head.

Hope this helps!

I had that problem, with pain as well, so around 6 months I went to see an ortho doc who rules out structural problems. I had a frozen shoulder as result of the long surgery, and PT helped tremendously. It's perfectly normal now.

I'm sure your water PT will help, but if it doesn't after a while, go see a shoulder specialist to rule out anything else.
