  • 4 month followup & Big ?s about pain/progress

    Hi everyone -
If anyone here remembers me, I had a minimal invasive fusion on July 7 by a Dr. Durrani. He fused T2 through L1 and achieved an 80% correction. I've grown at least 1.5 ", which is pretty exciting. My back feels pretty great -even though I'm still on percoset (2 5mg - 3xday) & robaxin, but it isn't my back that hurts! It is my rt leg, mostly hip down to knee - my PT says it is my IT band. It has hurt like heck most of the time for almost 3 mos.
Has ANYONE else had this problem? I see the pain mgmt dr on Thurs, despite my huge fear of opiates &needles&all the scary stories I've heard.
I spend most of my time in bed, because sitting usually hurts after an hr & we don't have a recliner. What is a typical level of activity at this point? Any advice would be appreciated. I am at my wits end.

You might want to search for posts by LynnetteG. She also battled leg pain after her surgery. I wish you the best of luck in treating your pain! I would think that (without that pain) would you be able to walk 3 miles a day by now, especially with a minimally invasive surgery.

Good Luck...sending positive thoughts and energy your way.

      cyborg,
Is it sciatic pain that you are having or muscular? I have had right leg sciatic pain since my revision in March. I just had a steroid injection a week ago for it and I have had significant improvement. I think your activity level should be more than what it is if you are spending most of your time in bed. Does it hurt when you walk? I hope your pain management doctor can help you find the source of your pain...good luck ;-)

Hey Cyborg2be. Congrats on a great correction! I had a similiar curve pattern as you & my right hip hurt before surgery due to uneven hips causing athritis in the iliac joint. Maybe pain is being caused due to changes in your hip levels or general balance, hopefully it's temporary until your body adjusts to it's new frame. What has your doctor said? I would think getting some walking in, even with a walker (if the doc oks) is important - even if painful. You've been through too much to be stuck in bed

Hi, I am 5 mo post tomorrow. I also have r hip/back pain that goes down to my r thigh at times. I believe it is from the weight of the fusion on my lowest disc. I take 1-2 pain pils on days when the pain is severe and none on most days. Usually while I am at work is when I take them. My activity level is much higher though. I have been working for 2 months now which I don't recommend but I am able to do it. I recently started seeing a Chiropracter that specializes in Biophysics?. He uses a instrument to adjust me that taps on the disc. It seems to help a little. I hope your pain gets better. I wonder everyday why I put myself through this and I am doing better so it seems. It is a very slow process! Which I realize now. Good luck.

Leg Pain - knee & hip

Thanks everyone, who has responded! I tried to reply on the weekend, but the system kept telling me I wasn't allowed. The pain is in 2 places - my hip and my knee. It is not sciatic, and i am grateful. Sometimes there is a line of pain that connects the 2. I try being up and about the house, but then the knee hurts. But when I'm in bed too much, my hip hurts! I started seeing a massage therapist last week and she thinks it is an impinged nerve. I see a pain specialist tomorrow...hope to get some answers! My back is just too good to have a leg hold me back now...will update asap.
