Hi all-

I am currently 4 1/2 months post op. I saw my surgeon last week and he said I could start taking NSAID's like Advil or Aleve to help my shoulder pain. I was under the impression that you had to wait until a year or after the fusion took place. Just wondering when your doctors said you could start taking them... I trust my doctor so I just started taking them this week. I hope this is ok and doesn't screw anything up.

Thanks,
JenM

When I had my last fusion at my 3 month checkup x-rays I had a pretty good fusion going so all restrictions were lifted. (I was only fused 2 levels then). I had my 2 month checkup Monday for the big fusion and I still have restrictions. I think they generally make you wait 3 or 4 months before using NSAIDs. So it sounds like you're right on track.

Jen,

I just had my 3 months check today and my surgeon lifted all restrictions except contact sports (like I'm really bummed about not doing that) and waiting 9 months for roller coasters. He even said that I'm okay to take whatever I want and that at this point it will not interfere with my fusion.

You're going to doubt Dr. Boachie now? ;-)

I started taking NSAIDs at 3M postop and went on to have a very solid fusion.

9 months for me, but that could be because of my age.
