Hi! Just wanted to drop a line to say all went well and I'm @ home recuperating.dr lenke was pleased with outcome. Those of u still waiting my highest recommendation is having some stay with you. We paid for a private room. I was amazed how helpless I was in the beginning! Sure glad for hubby being there.thanks for all the support.

Congratulations! I'm glad you're doing well. Dr. Lenke will be my surgeon, too. I have decided to pay for a private room, also. Thanks for the tip on needing someone with you. I want my husband to be two places at once-taking care of our two dogs 30 miles from the hospital and taking care of me in the hospital. I may have to pay for a private aide on nights he can't be with me.

61 years old--57 for surgery
Diagnosed in 1965 at age of 13--no brace
Thoracic Curve: 96 degrees to 35 degrees
Lumbar Curve: 63 degrees to 5 degrees
Surgery with Dr. Lenke in St. Louis--March 30, 2009
T-2 to Pelvis, and hopefully all posterior procedure.
All was posterior along with 2 cages and 6 osteotomies.Comment

Might be cheaper?May 2008 Fusion T4 - S1, Pre-op Curves T45, L70 (age 48). Unsuccessful surgery.

I agree! Having my hubby with me was tremendously helpful both physically and emotionally. We had to have my inlaws care for my birds for three weeks, and it was worth it.

I didn't have anyone stay with me overnight. I didn't ask my partner, though I had a private room. I think it would have done his head in, with the lack of sleep and the stress of seeing me in pain. I didn't ask and he didn't offer! In fact, he didn't miss a day at work, and still visited me 110 ks away almost every day. For those who haven't anybody to stay with you, you will do just fine. Just know it's not a bad thing to press the buzzer, and press it again if nobody comes. Initially I was concerned about being a trying patient, but soon came to the conclusion that me: patient, nurses: paid to look after me! Most were very good.Surgery March 3, 2009 at almost 58, now 63.

Congrats on being on the other side and on recovery road. I agree about having someone with you those first couple of nights. I hired a nurse assistant in a semi private room. She's the one who found me earplugs becuase my roomie (who was very nice & fun to talk to) snored very loudly. It was just good to know someone was right there all the time. I wish you all the best.Debra
