  • Question Re: Drainage Post-Op

    Hi Again!

I just noticed that since my home nurse visit today and with new bandages applied I am showing a bit more drainage through the bandage. How much is this small drainage a concern? I will obviously call the nurse tomorrow morning but just wanted to know if anyone had experience with this!

    Thanks!

Hi JamieAnn- I had 3 drains in my back after surgery (Tuesday) and each day there seemed to be a lot of fluid. They removed all 3 on Friday. After that I didn't have any more drainage out of my dressing. But I bet it's normal to have some. But you're doing the right thing by calling tomorrow morning. Good luck!

      Hi...

It's still early, but if you weren't showing any drainage in prior bandage changes and are now, that's something you definitely should report. It could mean nothing, but you won't know unless you ask. They'll probably ask if you have any fever and if there's any obvious redness or swelling.

      Regards,
      Linda

Its good that the nurses are coming out to your home. I would address this when they come back. I was spotting my bandage for probably 2 weeks...

I had the nurses coming out to my house every day. If you call, they will come.

Thanks for your replies, it helped calm me a bit. I had the nurse come back out today and she changed the bandage. This was actually the same spot I always had some drainage from - I looked at pictures my husband took in the hospital. I am going back in to see the doctor on Thursday just to be thorough.

          I'll keep you all posted!

          Thanks again!
