  • Update on Brenda (Barleygirl)

Here is a post from Brenda's Husband from her Care Pages:

"The rehab is tiring her out, but she is enjoying the exercise. Earlier today, they told her that they would fit her for leg braces. The good news about that is that they are expecting her to walk."

      Karen--
Thanks for letting us know this! That is definitely an improvement. Hopefully, this trend will continue. I'm sure it will be a slow road. Lots of special prayers for Brenda. Janet

It's nice to post an update in the middle of the day when I'm not exhausted. Tomorrow will be two weeks sine Brenda "woke up." she is now feeding herself, tootling around in a wheelchair and moving herself in bed. Her legs are still paralyzed although she does have some movement and feeling. All that bodes well for her future and her ability to walk Pain is a big issue yet as is discouragement. As any one who has been very ill knows, it is hard to be positive all the time.

We anticipate about four more weeks, perhaps more, in St. Joseph's rehab. We are often asked when she will be released. We are told when she is independent in most functions. Brenda was able to join me at lunch today in the hospital cafeteria. For as many times as I've eaten there by myself, it was great to have her with me. We enjoyed listening to LDS General Conference on the Internet this morning. Things are progressing slowly, but -->

Thanks Karen, for posting that. I'd been wondering if Brenda was improving. Sounds like she can now look forward to better times to come, even if it may take some time.

Brenda has had a relatively good week. She is not able to stand or walk, but her upper body has recovered relatively well. She is able to transfer from bed to wheelchair with help. She enjoys moving around in her wheel chair and is happy to have a replacement for the one that pulled left. Yesterday (Thursday), she went to lunch with her OT and some other patients. It felt good to get out. She likely has two to four week left at St. Joseph's rehab, then she will transfer to outpatient rehab in Gilbert. Hopefully, a couple of weeks after that she'll return to Payson. At that time, it will be a challenge for me to take care of her, but we'll worry about that when the time comes. Lori and Ellen from Brenda's Redbird days will visit tomorrow. Brenda is looking forward to having them. Hope all is well with everyone.

I've been following Brenda's progress on the this forum, and there really does seem to be some, it looks like there is a chance she will, with time walk again prayerfully.

was this the last update on Brenda? Anything new that I missed? I had to take a break from the forums but I was thinking about Brenda.

I got a CarePage update about 10 days ago after not hearing anything for some time. Brenda and her husband are home and were "giddy" about being home. They have a ramp to their house now and I think she is being fitted with braces for her legs. If I get another update, I will be sure to post it.
