  • 6 Months Post Op

Hi Everyone! I will be six months post op the end of September. My oh my...how things change over those first six months. For all of you that are in the early stages of recovery, please know it gets a LOT better! People are amazed what I went through...and how they can't tell that I had that type of surgery so recently! I feel and look "normal" and am no longer self concious when I am walking away from people. I do feel a tightness in my back and a numbness still too, but I was told that is the feeling of the nerves and muscles growing back. I am active doing yoga and walking 3-5 times a week and am sooooo happy I had this done. Check out my link below my signature line. I added some recent "after" pics taken at 5 months post op, about one month ago. If anyone has questions, feel free to send me a private message through here....or post on this thread.

Good luck to all. Hang in there!!!

Yes...the first couple of months I LIVED with my ipod in my hand. I didn't have the desire to focus to read, but I loved listening to my music, and I downloaded podcasts (for free) from itunes and listened to them. I sort of got into meditation (healing meditation) and would listen to those podcasts and they would relax me sooo much and make me feel like my body was healing quicker. Who knows...maybe it worked....but either way, it relaxed me and made me feel better. Let me know if you have questions! Good luck to you.

Hi Laura - your new pics look great. I'm almost 3 weeks post op (Tuesday) and have been back home from St Louis since this past Monday. Dr B got better correction than he initially thought he could (not perfect) but definitely a big improvement. Most of my rib hump is gone and I have a torso again. My ribs were sitting on my hips, especially on one side. I still have some swelling, both back and abdomen, but that is going down. I feel pretty good, aside from the minor aches and pains, and have been out for a few dinner outings. I, too, am really glad I did this but wish I had done it 10 years earlier. So have you noticed much change in your body from the first month to now almost 6 months?

Laura, thanks for the encouraging words! Your correction is amazing!

Ryy, I saw that Laura recommended the iPod during recovery. I just wanted to chime in that the iPad has been great for me during my recovery. It is so lightweight that I can carry it all over the house. We subscribe to Netflix, and I can watch movies streaming over the Internet anywhere in the house.
