There are a lot of things in the world that can cause liver damage, but i don't see these things being banned. First that comes to mind is alcohol. We got a warning on our news last night that Ibuprofen, commonly sold as Nurofen causes stroke. Where does it end?

I don’t see it being banned also, but the fact that this has happened is important for anyone taking these meds.

I took Percoset for 6 weeks, and had my golf ball sized stones form. The liver produces cholesterol, and gall stones are cholesterol based.

The end goal should be to come off medications.... Who knows what other damage can arise?

I cannot believe that people buy 1000 Percosets at a time. Wow!

Unbelievable! In Australia, you are lucky to be sent home with 5 tabs after surgery! Due to the fact that it is a Narcotic, even surgeons are regulated as to how many scripts they can write for the patient.

This thread caught my eye as I'm on percocet now. I read the article and they were talking about people buying a bottle of a 1000 over-the-counter pills like tylenol at a time, not percocet. However, the article is very interesting to read. Thank you for sharing it Ed!

Consult with your surgeon about weaning off, have him come up with a plan for you. Remember, do not cut pills without permission.

You are right, but then again who would need 1000 pills of anything?

I consulted with Dr. Vora this afternoon at my 6 week appointment. He said I could start weaning off it by stretching the time to 8 hours between each dose and go from there.

I'm sure the Mennonites out here in Amish country buy the giant bottles of Tylenol and then spread it out between the families. They go shopping once a month with a very large van. Oh, and I'm sure my mother-in-law has been known to buy that much also, but that's a whole other story there!

I remember getting really excited when I finally got to the point (over a year post-op) where Tylenol actually relieved my pain. In rehab, they'd give me narcotics with a Tylenol chaser and I used to laugh....it was like spitting in the ocean!!

Does that include pain meds like tramadol? Just wondering? And yes, 1000 of anything is a bit bizarre.
