  • Great news!

It's about time I get to share some super great news here! I went to my surgeon yesterday and he removed my picc line. (It's been three weeks since the surgery to replace my bone graft.) Since being off the antibiotics for the last week I have felt ten times better. I have trouble knowing my limits since it's been almost three months since my initial surgery and I'm just ready to regain my life. I get tired real easy and I tend to have two good days followed by a day where I "just hurt" real bad. Today is my bad day. But yesterday evening I "played" kickball with my 4 year old and one year old. It felt great to feel like I was their mom again.
My surgeon said I should be able to return to work in about 8 weeks. The hospital I work at does not allow you to return to work with any type of restrictions. It's all or none. So between now and then, I just have to work on my endurance. Hope everyone else is having as good a week as I have had.

Congratulations Jenny. My hospital is the same. It has been 3 months today for me and it is my 2nd day of work. (the first day I was secretary/monitor tech because we didn't have one so I sat all day which was not so bad). I just have to constantly remind myself to stand up straight and don't bend over. Wish me luck I have to do my actual job today for the first time. I just called my friend who works nights and she said it wasn't busy so that is good. I am glad you are feeling better! I just wanted you to know you can do anything if you set your mind to it!! Good luck!

That's great news, Jenny, I am glad that overall you are feeling so well.

Jsully, I have been thinking a lot about you this week as you return to work, and have been wondering how it was going. I hope it will not be busy, and that you can have a light assignment.

I am a nurse also, and it is so sad to hear of hospitals that will not allow any sort of modified or limited duty for it's nurses--how ironic is that? I feel so fortunate that my boss will allow me to come back in whatever capacity I can, he said I can just come and sit if that's all I can do. Good thing, because I don't have any disability pay and not very much earned leave.

        Take care,

                    Jenny,

Great post! I'm so happy to hear that things are coming together for you. I loved thinking of you playing ball with your kids.

Seems like you, Janet, and JenM are slowly getting out of the woods. Now we need to know about Joyfull and Teresa (Greenthumb).

I hope you will keep sharing your updates!

I won't lie, every day is still a battle. I have to force myself to stand up straight every waking moment but the pain is manageable and I can do almost everything I want to. However, I don't want to be stuck leaning forward the rest of my life and that is my biggest issue at this moment.

Jsully - I understand about leaning forward. I usually don't notice that I start doing that until at the end of the day or if I've been up on my feet for a long time. It helps me staighten back up if I put my hands on my hips. I walk around alot like that at night. Hope work is going well for you.

Trying my best. Gotta tuck the hips in and push boobs out! When I do that my r foot turns out. My husband says it looks like erkle? SP? Then a woman at work said I walk like a duck. Then when I walk by a couple other ladies at work they say "STAND UP STRAIGHT!!!!". Oh well, I just hope it gets better and yes it does get worse as the day progresses.
