One of my major concerns with upcoming surgery next week has been walking my dog and still being able to "pick up" after her once I can get out since I won't be able to bend over. After a brief internet search I have found the Scooper Genie!

      Lisa,
I am going to order the Pooper Scooper, too. I just bought a long handled one that I had planned to use when I can't bend over, but this one is much better! Thanks for sharing.

I ordered it this evening. Sometimes it's just these little annoying things that keep you awake at night when you're getting ready for surgery. Crossing them off your "to do" list sure helps!

Ed, thanks for asking about my neck. Overall, it is doing well. I go for my 3 week check up tomorrow.

It is very stiff and I have some occasional dull aching pain. I am still wearing a cervical collar 24/7 (for 4 weeks) so it is a bit difficult to ascertain how it will feel "on it's own."

My back and thoracic chest wall pain has worsened. I am assuming this is due to wearing the cervical collar, wearing a bone stimulator 4 hours a day and other strains around the neck area. I guess we will be setting a date for the big surgery soon. The thought of going through surgery again bums me out as this one took more of a toll on me that I thought it would. I tried to take a short side trip this past weekend to a resort town about and hour and a half from my home. That was a mistake. I was in agony with back pain during and after the trip.

All in all, I am doing better each day on the neck issues.

I can imagine that your back pain would accelerate after your neck fusion....Any idea when the collar will come off? Things should feel better after it comes off, even though it will be delicate for months.

Multiple surgeries are such a drag. I did 5 in 2 years. My surgeon wanted me to go and have some more stuff done, I told him I needed a break. Ahhhh......

Its good to hear that you have some improvement. It’s a slow process, one day at a time.

For years I've been using a narrow 3' rake to scape the poop into an old rectangular 3' flower box. No bending makes it quick & easy!

Lisa, I'll have to order this. I didn't even think of it (so I'll have to add it to the list). One of my favorite things to do is walk my dog and I've been concerned about her when she sees a critter she wants to chase, and pulls me on the leash. It doesn't happen too often, but once in a while she can't resist the temptation to chase. Anyone who has asked to help I've said they can come and walk me, and my dog.

I agree, Debra. I'll probably have to be walked, along with the dog, at least at first. I have a 14# Shih Tzu, though, so I'm not too worried about her pulling me over.

                      Lisa,
Have you tried this? I watched the video and the girl still bends some, but the cheap one I bought last year doesn't work well at all. I need to order this if it works.
Let me know if you recommend it.

I know I won't be allowed to walk the dogs for at least 4 months, but thought that if the pooper scooper worked, I could clean up after them if my friends are walking them and I'm able to walk along.

that sounds like a good plan...it is amazing how strong little dogs can suddenly become...i suspect my little Maltese may have some very distant fox terrier in him...his chest is stronger than many Maltese i've seen...not to cast aspersions on his grandmother or anything....
i give thanks for my puppy every day that i cant get out of bed, and he stays with me, keeping me company...he is just the best!

best of luck to the surgery candidates with their puppies...
