    The old and the new

    These are not very clear, but you'll get the picture. Wish the side view were better. He put a really nice curve in my lower back where the curve went from front to back rather than back to front. Not a perfect correction, but good enough to make me very happy. We were not expecting a perfect correction.

    Glenda, you have done very well. I don't know what constitutes a good correction for others, but for me a good correction, is one that halts progression and alleviates (sp?) the pain. If this has been achieved in your case, you have done very well.

      Are they not taking full spine xrays, or did you just not take photos of the full spine?

        Linda --This is all they took, I assume, or at least that's all that was copied and given to me. They did do a myleogram and CT Scan of my entire spine and I believe the MRI was of my entire spine. I can't find it right now to check it out.

        Vali -- the intent was to halt the progression and to alleviate the pain. The pain has been alleviated. I guess only time will tell if the progression has been halted.

            Impressive, Glenda!! And I LOVE your lordosis! (Talk about a weird
            "in" remark. No one but you guys would know what I mean...)
            Not all diagnosed (still having tests and consults) but so far:
            Ehler-Danlos (hyper-mobility) syndrome, 69 - somehow,
            main curve L Cobb 60, compensating T curve ~ 30
            Flat back, marked lumbar kyphosis (grade?) Spondilolisthesis - everyone gives this a different grade too. Cervical stenosis op'd 3-07, minimally invasive

                Surgery March 3, 2009 at almost 58, now 63.

                T4-Pelvis, Posterior only
                Osteotomies and Laminectomies
                Was 68 degrees, now 22 and pain free

                  61 years old--57 for surgery

                  Diagnosed in 1965 at age of 13--no brace
                  Thoracic Curve: 96 degrees to 35 degrees
                  Lumbar Curve: 63 degrees to 5 degrees
                  Surgery with Dr. Lenke in St. Louis--March 30, 2009
                  T-2 to Pelvis, and hopefully all posterior procedure.

                  All was posterior along with 2 cages and 6 osteotomies.

                        Thanks all!

                        It's amazing to me to look at everyone's before and after's. It doesn't seem possible our spines could be changed in such a way. Our doctors and our bodies are truly remarkable.

                        and.... Linda, I've been thinking about the x-ray of the entire spine. That's a good question, I'm going to ask about it at my next follow-up on August 31.

                          Hi Glenda, Gotta jump in on this as well. Your back looks wonderful. Isn't it a proud feeling to be a post-oppie??? I still show my battle wounds to anyone that wants to see. I especially like to see grown men turn pale just looking at my pictures!!!

                            Thanks, Shari --I know what you mean. I am very proud of them and don't mind letting folks know. They were very painful and costly, but a huge amount of relief from pain.
