Thanks for posting that, Chris. I was delighted to see Rush listed, as I spent 11 days there, you know. They were great to me and the nurses and support staff were wonderful. I even sent them a big box of Fannie May chocolates that Christmas.

I got to thinking my post might have come off sounding not the way I meant it. I honestly believe there are SO many hospitals out there that give wonderful service that don't make this list. If you have confidence in your surgeon and he/she is an experienced scoliosis specialist, your hospital is well staffed with qualified people, and well maintained and equipped, you should be in really good hands. This is just one survey that is taken annually-- it is well respected, but it is not the "end all" of knowing where to go. If your hospital is not listed, don't feel like you are being short-changed. Check it out, by all means, if you are concerned, but it is probably an excellent facility in its own right.

chris UC Davis Medical Center made this of rank 35 in orthopedics in 2008 it was ranked 40 in orthopedics
I spent 7 days there this year after my scoliosis spinal fusion. the nurses in the icu i had they was great are to me. i had i had great nurses in the orthopedic unit.

While I can easily recommend my surgeon, I can’t say the same about U. of Chicago. I relayed my nightmarish experience in the ICU here some time ago. When I was wheeled out of there, I swore I would never set foot in that hospital again. Not having been hospitalized since I was a teenager, I did not know how to compare my stay there with other institutions until I was transferred to the rehab center where I spent 13 days. What a world of difference! The nursing staff there were highly professional and attentive and could easily put to shame the nursing staff at U. of Chicago.

That's a shame, Chris. I can still remember the staff on the orthopedic floor at Rush. It's like I bonded with them. I can remember some names still, and many faces. They were wonderful-- well, all except one nurse.

But I agree that folks shouldn't think they are being short-changed if their hospital isn't on the list. Another thing is that that term 'orthopedics' can cover everything from knee and hip replacements to scoliosis to a range of other conditions. So, some of the 'best' orthopedic hospitals could specialize in knee replacements, for example.

That said, making the list is definitely a positive sign!

Susie i can also recommed my surgeon. I'm only saying this once be nice to chris because both mine and her surgeons are brothers. funny you said that i still remember all my nurses in the icu and the orthopedic floor at uc davis
