Hang in there Jen, it will get better - soon, I am sure. I hope you're getting the best care possible. Sleep as much as you can - it passes the time until that magical day when the pain eases up. It will!

I'm so glad to hear from you Jen. Hang in there, the pain will start to get better around the 2 week mark. The Dr. told me that and it happened like clockwork.

It will feel better.I promise and then you will remember why you wanted the surgery so you can have a brand new straight back

Ditto what everyone else has said. It will get better. I remember those first few days trying to get out of bed were just agony. (part of the reason I decided sitting in a chair worked better for me.) Anyway, just wanted to send support and encouragement. Make sure you're getting your pain meds on time! Great to hear from you!

Jen--You did great. It will get better. Hang in there! I know I wanted to fast forward about 5 months when I got done but just take it one day at a time. Janet

Congratulations--it's done!!!

Don't forget to ask for more pain relief if you need it--they don't want you to be in pure agony! It's okay to use the meds for a while.

Hope you go home soon!

Congrats on being in recovery Jen, even though you're in a ton of pain. I hope you'll get pictures of your new back soon to see what you're doing all this for. You put it just like I've thought it will be, like being run over by a truck. But, I've heard it said alot that the pain starts to ease up after the 2nd week. Thanks for posting and hoping each day brings more relief.

I spoke to Jen this afternoon and she's still in the hospital. They were ready to release her today, but she's having horrible muscle spasms (in the exact spot I always had them--to the right of the left shoulder blade) that had her screaming in pain. They're adjusting her meds to try and handle it better, but she was very upset that it was still terrible. I assured her that it will not always be this way and it WILL get better. It's hard to believe when you're in the middle of it though.

She's also fearful of the car ride home, as the NY streets are so bumpy. I had that problem too; I told her to make sure she is medicated right before they leave, have pillows with her, and be able to 'brace herself' with her arms on the car arm rests when bumps happen.

I'll check on her tomorrow.

Oh poor Jen. I hope they can get her meds right to relieve those spasms and she can get home, into her own bed, where I am absolutely positive, things will look a lot better. Thanks Debbe for your update. Hope the next one is much happier.

Those of us on "this" side know it gets better, but as you say Debbe, it's hard to believe at that point.
