Hi all, i had my 12 month checkup today. Xrays were taken and compared to the last three lots beginning 5 days post-op till today. There is evidence of fusion and everything is healing nicely. He has not released me from his care though, as i am still having pain in the left leg. It is not as bad as it was, when it first started back in mid May, but it is still there and sometimes painfully flares up again. Restrictions like heavy lifting will exist for a very long time (life) and he said he would not release me yet for water skiing. In all, we were both happy with the outcome of the correction. I am very happy with the results. I am also very happy to have had the courage to undergo such a procedure. I feel as if i can take on the world now!

Wow, that's some awesome correction you've got there! I think that is one of the best ones that I have seen on the board. I'm sorry your leg still hurts, but glad that you are doing well otherwise and being sooo optomistic!
Take Care
Be happy!
We don't know what tomorrow brings,
but we are alive today!

Congratulations Vali! Despite your leg pain, you've done extremely well.
I hope your leg continues to improve. I wonder if it's something that would have happened whether or not you had the surgery?
I hope you had a little celebration for your milestone.Surgery March 3, 2009 at almost 58, now 63.

Vali - congrats on your year anniversary. How exciting! I'm glad you are pleased with your correction too. I am surprised that you still have a lifting restriction, I will be curious if I find that as well. I was hoping at the year mark that would go away. I am still early in my recovery. Thanks for sharing.Shari - 55 years old

Vali,
Congrats, and loved hearing your good news, especially after your post of several weeks ago when you were in so much pain.
I think May must have been International Scoliosis Post-Surgical Bad Leg Month. Just one leg issue after another. Thank God it's June.

Congratulations on your 1 year milestone....
I remember water skiing years ago pre surgery, and that would just kill my back! Someday, I will try it again.....
Hopefully, the leg issue is a soft tissue injury. They usually heal in time.

Thankyou to evveryone who posted. Sorry for my lateness in responding, but once again it has been a very busy week. Seems like there are not enough hours in the day when you are self employed. The leg pain is still there but it now feels more like bruising. The spasms at night have gone. At this point in time, I would love to go back to playing netball, but still not allowed. My ten pin bowling is lousy as well (only getting 175)! I say, lets give it another year and things should be good! What do you think?
On another note, to the beautiful people who have fusions down to sacrum.
Upon waking in the morning, are you slow to get moving or can you just hop out of bed and get going. Thanking you in advance for any replies. Have a good weekend. (Don't forget the Aeroguard!)Vali

Hi Vali. It's good to read that your leg pain is gradually resolving. Excellent news.
As to your question about getting out of bed in the morning, I have no problems at all, which has been something of a surprise, BUT if I sit at the computer for too many hours, when I get up to walk, I feel like an old lady. The first few steps I'm very stiff and I hobble. It takes about 10-12 steps to come good again. I've only noticed this in the last week or so.
I have been trying to come up with a reason for this and the only one I can think of is dietary. I received lots of chocolates for my birthday, end of May, and have been over-indulging ever since - could it be sugar/fat overload I wonder?Surgery March 3, 2009 at almost 58, now 63.

Dear Vali,
Congratulations on the one-year mark! Your surgery and recovery has been an inspiration to me, since I am your age and will be having a similar surgery. I hope your leg pain continues to resolve.
