  • Never say never

Hi all, I just wanted to share the happy news that at almost 3 years post-op, I can finally do some gardening again. I was told early on not to do any activities that involve repetitive bending (like gardening!), but I find that if I get on my hands and knees, I'm essentially bending from the hips and I'm able to plant and weed for around a half hour at a time.

What also helped me a lot over the past year was getting a dog -- the extra walking and getting down on the ground to pick up poop has been great PT for my weak leg, which I'd say is about 95% back to normal.

My mobility isn't perfect and I'm sometimes very stiff, but I did want to offer encouragement for anyone who feels that they're having a slow or difficult recovery. Patience pays off!

Good to hear Chris! It hardly seems a year since you posted about your two year anniversary and the great strides your recovery had made since 12 months. Keep up the good work!

That's wonderful news. I know I worried about being able to leash my small dogs, but they have learned to come over to the chair for me to put their leashes on and enjoy walking with me. So glad you're able to come back to a favorite hobby, and it's good for us newbies to know that the healing/improving goes on for a long time.

Chris--I'm so glad you are able to return to the gardening. That is a tricky one to do. I've done some but I certainly pay for it. It's good to know that can still get better. Janet
