Hi,
Would you consider traveling to St. Louis? Both Dr. Keith Bridwell and Dr. Lawrence Lenke are located there (associated with Barnes Jewish Hospital). Both are excellent and work with adult spinal deformity cases. In my opinion, you really want someone whose practice is exclusive to spinal deformity and who regularly performs surgery on adults.

Thanks Kathy. It may be worth the trip over. In January 2009 I had a fusion to correct a very high grade spondylolisthesis. Fused L4-S1. At the time my scoliosis was 60 degrees. He wanted to stabilize the base of my spine and correct the spondy before considering the scoliosis. I had nerve issues and it was critical to get that fixed. The surgery went very well and after 3 months in a brace and a month of PT I could go back to doing anything I wanted including playing golf. When I saw him last April for my 3 month follow up, stabilizing the spondy had actually improved my scoliosis curve to 55 degrees. He told me to come back in a year and we'd see where the scoliosis is and discuss surgery. I like him and feel comfortable with him and had a very good result from my first fusion but I don't have a feel for how much adult scoliosis surgery he does which is one of my questions. I'll let you know. Thanks for your help.Age 56

Hi Lisa, you NEED to travel to Lafayette and see Dr John Gorup, who is the President of Indiana Spine Center...AMAZING DOCTOR. He did my fusion 3 weeks ago, I was fused from T2 to L2 and my incision literally looks like it is 3 months old, not 3 weeks. I would recommend him to anyone. You can research him online. He also belongs to The Scoliosis Research Society and only does spines. A lot of MDs are also neurosurgeons, where his specialty is just the spine.
I am 29 years old and he is just amazing with adults.
If you have any other questions, let me know...
